Evaluation for Final Major Project

My final major project has really been a stepping stone for me and a realisation of where my specialist area lies.
Throughout my FMP I have chosen briefs that have a focus on type and image combined which enabled me to refine my specialist area and really explore and experiment with what I could do with the two. This in turn has given me confidence and having confidence in the work that I have been doing has also improved my work. All briefs were aimed for a commercial context which is where I think my work lies best. I definitely feel as if my work fits nicely into contexts such as book cover design, greetings cards, retail graphics and promotions.

My commitment has risen dramatically and I really feel like I am ready to be a Graphic Designer now, my software skills have improved and I have overcome my fears of Indesign, this was an important factor for me to achieve as having these particular skills are necessary for me in future job requirements.
I am really pleased with my portfolio and you can really see a definitive style and pattern running throughout.
I began to use the Wacom pad also throughout a couple of my briefs which has really enhanced my illustrations and has taken them to a more professional level.

My strengths definitely became apparent in my ABC dimensional brief, exploring and experimenting with type has become a great interest to me and I want to exploit that further in briefs to come. My professionalism and standard of work produced I think has improved a great deal and I have tried in every brief to push them and extend them to their full potential. I also am very pleased with my Design Context book and really enjoyed the formation of layout of type and work for publications which gives a context for the work that I do. Through looking into the work of other designers more and reading more I think again my work has improved, I know what my competition is and the standard that my work has to be at for it to be acceptable.
Through each of my FMP briefs and my design context I have considered paper stock a lot more and have chosen stocks that will compliment and enhance my work.

I think my weakness that became apparent was my lack of attention to detail regarding type throughout my design context and also briefly in my Hugo brief, sometimes I make things illegible to boost the aesthetical look of my designs where as they should both be equal.
Photography I also do not think is my greatest talent, although all photographs taken were by me I think in future I will try and get someone else to photograph my work so that my designs are shown to their full potential and at a high quality and professionalism.

Blogging has helped me keep on track of where I am at with each brief and has kept me organised throughout, I feel I have been really consistent with blogging and have shown clear research, development and outcome documentation throughout.
